Department of Biomedical Informatics Recruitment

We are seeking outstanding candidates for four tenure track faculty positions for the 2008-2009 Academic Year. Positions are available at Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. Individuals will be expected to teach at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, publish, conduct research, strengthen trans-disciplinary relationships, and provide service to the discipline and community.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Either a doctoral degree in biomedical informatics (BMI), computer science or closely related field, with evidence of experience or accomplishment in biomedical sciences or health care; or a doctoral or professional degree in biomedical science, medicine or related field, and with a record of accomplishment in application of computing and information technology.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
For Junior faculty positions: Applicants must show exceptional promise in research and teaching.
For senior positions: Evidence of research/scholarly activity, teaching and service in BMI appropriate to the rank being applied for.

ASU is a major university widely recognized as a rapidly emerging research institution in the US. The new Department of Biomedical Informatics (BMI) at Arizona State University, is in a major expansion phase. Fields of particular interest for new faculty include Bioinformatics, Clinical Informatics, Imaging Informatics, and Public Health Informatics, as well as cross-cutting foci that interact with these fields, such as data mining/predictive modeling, and knowledge representation, and cognitive modeling. The ASU main campus is located in the city of Tempe, in the metropolitan Phoenix area. The BMI department is housed on the Phoenix Biomedical Campus, home of the new University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix, and next door to Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen), a leading institute in clinical translational research. Stimulated in large part by growth in biomedical research and health care, downtown Phoenix is on the brink of an expected dramatic transformation. The beautiful, brand new building housing the Department of BMI has 44,000 sq. ft. of well developed, well-equipped space for academic offices and research, and is poised to play a key role in this transformation. Situated as it is in a School of Engineering, the Department of BMI also is able to draw on the considerable resources and talent of its faculty, students, and support services. BMI is in active collaboration with health care centers, consortia, and municipal and state agencies throughout the state, given Arizona shared commitment to collaboration and growth.
