What is Biomedicine@ASU?
Biomedicine@ASU is a collaboration between the Department of Biomedical Informatics and related faculty, research centers and institutes and clinical partnerships across ASU, gathered together and reporting directly to the provost of the university. This initiative seeks to coordinate and provide a framework for many new and ongoing research activities aimed at the discovery, translation and application of new approaches to improve medical application, diagnosis and treatment.
The Department of Biomedical Informatics is the central academic unit within Biomedicine@ASU. A vibrantly growing department, we are expanding our influence and stature, and currently seeking new faculty.

ASU assistant professor Kanav Kahol guest-edited a first-ever special issue of the IEEE Transactions on Haptics journal. Close to 45 submissions were submitted, several times more than expected.
What are haptics? A paper by Prof. Kahol and co-researchers explains:
Ambient systems employ devices that are seamlessly integrated in a user's environment, providing unobtrusive and interactive access to digital media. These devices, when networked in systems of sensors, actuators, and computational units, can support intelligent, adaptive machine behavior.
