Douglas Fridsma
Associate Professor
Department of Biomedical Informatics
Dr. Fridsma was previously an assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh’s department of Biomedical Informatics where he was also a faculty member in the Center for Biomedical Informatics and Intelligent Systems. His research interests include the development of computational tools to study patient safety, clinical work processes, and collaboration between healthcare providers, with a specific interest in simulation, clinical trials, and oncology care. He has recently been working on how to develop, implement, and evaluate standards-based, interoperable clinical trials applications for managing clinical trials. Currently, Dr. Fridsma is one of the leaders of the BRIDG project, an NCI funded initiative that is part of the caBIG program and the aim of which is to develop a comprehensive formal representation of the shared semantics of clinical trials research. At present, the principle stakeholders within the BRIDG project are the NCI, HL7, and CDISC (the Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium). Dr. Fridsma currently serves on both the BRIDG Project Advisory Board, and the CDISC Board of Directors.
